Sundarbans

The Sundarbans declared as a  UNESCO World Heritage Site is the largest mangrove forest in the world. It comprises the southern part of Bangladesh and a part of India where the most part is in Bangladesh.

The fifth highest mountain (1230 meters) of Bangladesh, Keokaradong is located 30km away from the Ruma PS in Bandarban.

You’ve to walk 14km to reach the highest peak. You’ll find a tiny village named Darjeeling para 1km away from the highest peak. When you’ll reach the highest peak, you’ll feel a great achievement.

It’s a laborious job, so you need to have patience all the way long walking. Bring a sufficient amount of saline water and first aid. Finally, behave properly with the local people then you’ll have great help at the time of need.

Ratargul, Sylhet

Ratargul, the only swamp forest in Bangladesh is located in Gowainghat PS of Sylhet. The beauty is bloomed mainly in the rainy season.

In gwainghat hire boat and heads towards the island-like a place from where again hire a small boat for ratargul forest. Here it will cost BDT 200-500 for exploring ratargul forest. It’s better to hire a traditional boat instead of an engine boat where its shakiness will give you the real experience of the boat riding.

  • Most of the trees here are ‘koroch’ trees, a spot of attraction for the botanist. The reflection of the koroch tree on the crystal clear water of Chengir Khal creates mesmerizing ambiance.
  • Freshwater swamp forest is a good source of local fishes during rainy season. Besides, monkeys, lizards, birds insects, green spiders, birds etc are available to offer you flavor of Amazon forest.
  • Ratargul will provide you very adventurous and scary feeling. During boat riding the low hanging branches will hit you slightly and again you may stuck in the narrow gap between the trees what make your ride more daring.
  • Monsoon, in the month of July and August is the best time for visiting ratargul which gets submerged under 20 to 30 feet water in some part and rest of the year the water level is 10 feet.

Report and take permission from the forest office for exploring Ratargul and they’ll manage boat for you. Don’t hire from outside as there might be the possibility of be hijacked. Don’t throw anything here and there and don’t destroy the nature.

Sada Pathor, Bholaganj

Sada pathor (zero point) is a  picturesque canvas located at Bholagonj in Sylhet. Sada pathor means ‘white stone’.

Tourist attraction:

  • Crystal clear water, mesmerizing ambiance and the the whiteness of the stones is definitely going to bewitch you. You can also take your shower here with cold and soothing water. But if you can’t swim then avoid swimming here.
  • You’ll astonish to see the bonding of the hills, clouds, white stones and the depth of the river.
  • Cold melodious sound of water flow, sunrise, sunset and moonlit night will soothe your body and mind and make you lively and fresh.

Take CNG from Amberkhana, Sylhet towards Doyar bazar. Then heads towards sadapathor in Bholaganj by boat.

As Bholaganj is still an unknown place so don’t take any kind of risk during the journey.

Tinpa Saiter

The adventurous waterfall, Tinpa Saiter is for the most daring tourist who love to travel in the steep path for seeking the beauty of nature. It’s located at Royangchori in Bandarban. Saiter means waterfall. You need to walk 40km to reach the destination.

At first come to Bandarban and heads towards Royangchori. From there you will go to small Upazilla town. Now the walking starts. You’ll love the the jhiri path during the whole journey of walking.

After climbing hills, walking along zigzag path and embracing the clouds you’ll reach ‘poikkhong para’. After taking rest and having meal, start walking again for Ronin para.

At Ronin para you can enjoy the accommodation and meal at the house of the tribes.

Again the journey starts and climb up one hill to another hill and and a short break at Debachora para.

Again the Jhiri path to hills to finally the main destination Tinpa Soitar.

So you can see it’s a long journey and a lot of places to pass for reaching the destination.

Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban

An architectural masterpiece, Jatiyo Sangsad bhaban is designed by an American architect and Yale University Professor, Louis I. Kahn. It’s the Parliament of Bangladesh located at Sher-e-Bangla Nagar, Dhaka.

Though its construction started in 1964 but ends after the Liberation war in 1982.

Nafakhum

Nafakhum is the largest waterfall in Bangladesh. Wide open sky over the head, roaring sound of the waterfall, hide and seek of the shades and lights make the place blissful!

It’s situated in Sangu River at remote place Remakri of Thanchi Upazilla in Bandarban.

‘Khum’ in Marma language means waterfall. In Remakri river, fish named ‘nafa’ is available. Its specialty is to move against the wave. So when they try to reach the waterfall, they jump against the wave and caught by the fisherman at the moment.

  • If you want to reach nafakhum, come to Bandarban first. Next, drive to Tindu for 3 hours and then head towards remakri by boat for 3 hours. Finally, you’ll get nafakhum by walking 3 hours from Remakri.

       Dhakeshwari Temple

It’s open for all and people from different religion can visit here. The largest celebration of Hindus, known as  Durga Puja is held in this temple.

One thing you need to remember is that, if you are from different religion, don’t  touch worshippers or their  food as they consider it wasted.

       Chawk Bazaar

The age-old Chawk Bazaar becomes the center of meeting place of the Muslim community during Ramadan. It turns into iftar hub where hundreds of people come to collect iftar for breaking their fast.

You can get Iftar items like- suti kabab, boro baper pola, mutton kabab, fried pigeon, doi bora etc.

It’s located in old Dhaka but during Ramadan people from all around Dhaka and sometimes outside people come here to buy iftar.

       Sonargaon

 Sonargaon is a historic place located near industrial river port of Narayanganj, Dhaka.

 It’s the oldest capital of Bengal also known as ‘the city of Panam’.

For food, you have to buy from restaurants inside the park which are little bit expensive.

Shat Gombuj Mosque

Shat Gombuj Mosque, built by Khan Jahan Ali in 1459 is the largest and magnificent mosque in the country. You may get confused with the name ‘Shat Gambuj’ which means 60 domes but actually it has 60 pillars with 81 domes in all total of the mosque. It can be said that the architectural influence is from Turkish. Though exterior and interior mosque gives rather a plain architecture but the interior western wall is beautified with terracotta flowers and foliage.

Beside the prayer hall, it was used as a court of khan Jahan Ali.The appearance of the mosque is simple but impressive in design.

Mohasthanghar

The archeological and historical site, Mahasthan Garh was the capital of the kingdom the Mourjo, the Sen Dynasty and the Gupta. It’s on the bank of the river Korotoa,13km north of Bogra town.

‘Mohasthan’ means sacred place and ‘garh’ means fort. The largest and entire city of Bengal is fortified successfully by mud and brick wall.

Paharpur Buddha Bihar

Paharpur Buddha Bihar also known as Soumpur Moha Bihar is the archeological spot and largest known monastery which was discovered by excavation. It was declared as a world heritage site by UNESCO in 1985.

It’s located at Paharpur, in the northern district Naogaon. The main mandir is in the center of this monastery.

You can visit Paharpur Bihar from Dhaka by bus or train easily because of easy highway communication. Again you can start your journey from Bogra and visit Mahasthan Garh first and heads towards Paharpur via Joypurhat or Naogaon.

Mainamati, Comilla

The archeological site, Mainamati is located 8 miles from Comilla town. There are a series of hillocks where the northern part is called Mainamati; the southern part is called Lalmai and at the mid of this part contains Shalbon Bihar established by the King Buddha Dev in the 8th century.

  • Shalbon Bihar consists of 115 cells with large courtyard room with a cruciform temple at the center. It was Vihara means educational centre with residential facilities.
  • Kotila Mura is 5km north of Shalban Bihar where three stupas are found representing Buddhist ‘Trinity’ which means three Jewels- Buddha, Dharma and Sangha.
  • Charpatra Mura, an isolated small oblong shrine is located about 2.5 km northwest of Kotila Mura.
  • Visit Mainamati Museum which is enriched with collections of copper plates, 86 bronze objects, gold and silver coins, etc. You’ll find there 150 bronze statues restored from bronze stupas, monastic cells and stone sculptures.

Kaptai lake

Kaptai is the largest artificial lake created in 1960 for a hydroelectric project. It’s extended not only in Bangladesh but also in the South East Asia. This lake is located in the Rangamati region, 77 km away from the city of Chittagong.

Tanguar haor

Tanguar haor, most probably the second largest haor in Bangladesh is located in the Dharmapasha and Tahirpur upazilas of Sunamganj . The main haor  with water is 28sq km and the rest are villages and farmland. It’s also known as ‘Noi Kuru Kandar Choi Kuri Beel’  locally.

The haor comprises of 120 beels of various sizes. It’s the motherland of fishes. It’s an abode of 200 species of aquatic plants, 140 species of fishes, 100 species of migratory bird, 11 species of amphibian, 208 indigenous bird species. The haor is waterland having unique ecosystem.

You’ll love the cruising of the clear water with Meghalaya view , stopping at the village and hospitality of the Garo village there.Most of the people living there are either landless or marginal farmer.

The haor is cyclone prone zone and hailstorm also occur there. So check the weather before visiting Tanguar hawor.

  • Long day journey by boat. When you’ll enter to the haor, you’ll see the water reigning the whole places to make you lost in kingdom of water.
  • Reaching the shore you can get warm reception at the boatman’s house where his wife will cook food for you, for rest of the journey if you can collect them food.
  • You can enjoy swimming in the water  below the watch tower. The cold and clear water will soothe your body.
  • You can go to tekerghat lake. Blue water, lake and green nature will make you bewitched. The lake and borderlined hilly areas are main spot of attraction here.
  • You can also visit Barikkatila and Zadukata nodi which are borderline of India.

Inani Beach

A fine golden sandy beach is the part of Cox’s bazar, located about 32km south of it. It’s famous for coral boulders and uniquely shaped Rock.

Komoldoho cascade

The panoramic waterfall view of Komoldoho cascade always welcomes the tourist especially the adventurous tourist. It’s located at Sitakundo in Chittagong. It’s a kind of unknown trail where you’ve the possibility to discover new trail from here.

In order to reach here first you have go to Borodarogarhat in Mirshorai. From there you will find this cascade passing rail line beside brick kiln.

Tourist attractions:

  • The journey starts with bus and end with walking 20mins to reach the cascade. You will find medium to big cascades at the upstream of the komoldoho cascade.
  • The upstream of the big cascade is very risky at the rainy season. So it’s better to go there at the end of rainy season.

Dhuppani

Dhuppani waterfall is the place to get bewitched and make you feel tiny seeing the enormity of the waterfall. It’s the place to get peace in your mind.

It’s located at Bilachori in Rangamati. Whenever you’ll visit rangamati, make a plan to visit this waterfall.

Tourist attractions:

  • You’ll observe the buddhist monk who are meditating there for many years. Due to meditation you need to maintain some rules and regulations. But only on Sunday there is no restriction as the monk leaves the places for meal.
  • Enjoy the cold water of the waterfall that can make you calm and quiet and amazed by the serenity of the environment.

From Dhaka, hire a bus that goes to Jetty Ghat of kaptai and from there  heads towards Bilaichori. At the south of Bilaichori, you’ll reach Dhuppani waterfall passing the Uru Chori.

What I can suggest is, go to this place on Sunday to enjoy more. Don’t spoil the environment as this is the place of mediation of the Buddhist monk.
